Yes. SoundsMac lives in the menu bar (๐) and has no Dock icon. It runs as a lightweight background process and uses minimal CPU โ events are interrupt-driven, not polled (except a handful that use efficient 250ms polling).
No. SoundsMac is written in native Swift using IOKit, AVFoundation, and CoreGraphics โ the same frameworks macOS uses internally. Most events are hardware-interrupt-driven. The idle CPU usage is essentially zero.
Knock detection uses an AVAudioEngine microphone tap. On Apple Silicon this is hardware-accelerated and uses negligible power. On Intel the impact is minimal. You can disable the event in the dashboard at any time.
Yes. Any event can be overridden with your own .mp3, .wav, .aiff, or .m4a file using the Load button in the dashboard. You can also create unlimited custom themes mixing your own files across all events.
Yes. The .dmg ships a universal binary (fat binary with both arm64 and x86_64 slices). It runs natively on both chip families. The only Apple Silicon-exclusive feature is Lid at Angle (requires the hardware lid angle sensor).
Only once โ during license activation, the installer makes a single request to verify your license key. After that, the app runs fully offline with zero network requests. No telemetry, no analytics, no background connections.
SoundsMac is indie software signed ad-hoc (no Apple notarization fee). macOS Gatekeeper blocks unnotarized apps downloaded from the internet โ this is normal.
macOS 15 Sequoia: Open the DMG, double-click the installer, click Done on the warning. Then go to System Settings โ Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click "Open Anyway". Authenticate and click Open.
